Newbie here. My wife and I are planning to purchase a single family home however all the ones that we liked are in non-priority areas.
Does anyone here already went through the process of purchasing their dream abode in priority areas? If so did you maintain a list of zip codes? I have read in this forum that you can still get a house in good areas which has great schools and low crime.
Based on the way your post is written, I assume this means you are also a non-priority member. If you in fact ARE a priority member, please remember there are no restrictions whatsoever on where you may buy as long as it is within your affordability.
If you are a non-priority member, don’t let yourself all into the trap of thinking that non-priority areas are somehow automatically “the hood”. I promise you that a Census Tract (not Zip Code) with a median income of 98% of that of the MSA is going to be indistinguishable from one at 102%.
Get familiar with the FFIEC website and its function that identifies the statistics for any given Census Tract. It will give you a good head start where to look when the time comes.
