I have made three appointments. My first, I was never contacted by my counselor. The second, my counselor left a voicemail telling is to reschedule because she would be out of office that day. The third, once again, I never heard from my counselor. I got confirmations for all appointments, so I don’t understand what is happening. I chatted with an agent on the website who was fairly rude and dismissive. She just told me to attend the event in October and did not address my concerns. I would have been much less worried if my counselor had simply told us she would be unavailable until October. We weren’t told to attend an event, just to reschedule. I know this process will be long for us, so I am trying to get an action plan asap. My husband and I went through a rough time last year and our credit is a mess because of it. However, we are staying with my grandparents instead of signing another lease because we don’t want to have to wait for a lease to end to get a house and we think it is better to save monthly that to pay rent. This way, we will have a payment shock cushion. What are our next steps? We have gotten 0 guidance and I can’t stay where I am longer than 6-12 months.

Call your local office to see if there are any cancellations. You might be able to able to get an appointment before October if you call regularly.

Save everything you can. If you have debt try to pay it off. If you have collections your options are to wait until the collections have been inactive for 2 years or pay them off.

What does it mean for a collection to be inactive?

    Charged off.

Basically the debt collector decided to cut their losses and stop collecting. Sometimes this happens after 6 months sometimes a couple years. Depends on the debt collector.

If the debt has been charged off and you are still receiving communication that means the debt has actually not been charged off. The original debt collector charged it off and sold it to another debt collector who has not yet reported to the credit bureaus and will probably not give up because it probably cost them a nickle for every $100 of debt to buy your debt from the original collector.

    Hopefully this helps.

I waited nearly 2 hours and 10 minutes to be told to try again and maybe my counselor will show up. That they are probably just mismanaging their time and when I asked if there was anything I could do, she said to just work with the counselor. How can I work with someone who won’t work with me?

Yea I’ve been getting the run around with having a meeting with my local counselor. Communication is terrible, from the MC to the manager. I do have an ATD that is coming up in a few weeks that I pray is goes well, but seeing how my local office is I don’t have much faith right now.
