NACA’S HISTORIC “ROLL-TO-THE-POLLS” VOTER MOBILIZATION CAMPAIGN RETURNS TO ATLANTA METRO FOR FINAL DAY OF SENATE RUNOFF ELECTION
(ATLANTA – January 4, 2021) – NACA’s history making fleet of highly visible fifteen-passenger vans will return to the Atlanta metro to provide safe, free rides to the polls for the final day of the U.S. Senate runoff election.
During early voting for the general election, NACA brought a fleet of 100 vans to Atlanta in the largest operation of its kind ever, taking more than 25,000 voters to the polls, and more than 70,000 total in Georgia, Texas, North Carolina and South Carolina.
“With the stakes so incredibly high in the runoff, it is critical that every person wanting to cast their ballot has the opportunity to do so”, said Angeanette Dowles, NACA National Director in charge of the operation. “We know the demand is there for rides to the polls because we were so successful with the campaign in October and early November and the number of requests we have received already for rides on Tuesday.”
Voters wanting a free, safe ride to vote on Tuesday can call 888-495-6222 and schedule one of the vans to provide the round-trip.
Once again, each van will be stocked with PPE and will maintain social distancing by limiting the number of passengers for each trip.
Dowles added that with the October campaign, NACA also brought employment opportunities to Georgia for the drivers. “We originally planned on working with volunteers, but then realized that there are still a lot of people who lost their jobs because of the pandemic who are still struggling. By making our drivers paid positions, we have provided badly needed jobs to dozens of people, and we will be calling on many of those same people to drive for us on January 5th”.
Since the runoff election was announced for both of Georgia’s seats in the U.S. Senate, NACA, through its Economic Justice for All (“EJA”) PAC, has conducted a huge grassroots face-to-face canvassing operation in Georgia, completing more than 60,000 visits in the Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah areas supporting the Warnock and Ossoff campaigns. More than 200 canvassers have participated, including two-time Oscar winning actor Sean Penn.
NACA is best positioned to conduct such massive ground efforts such as this with over 360,000 members in Georgia built over 25 years through assisting homeowners during the mortgage crisis and now through its Best in America mortgage.
