I’m new to NACA and my first intake isn’t until January. I’ve tried to check Facebook groups and this forum to find my answer, but have come up empty.

I was at my previous job for less than a year when COVID hit and lost that job back in May. I currently receive SSI and have been doing so for 7 years, so I know I have a consistent source of income. When I start my new job in mid-November, will that income count as well or do I have to be on my new job for 2 years in order for that income to be counted?

    Hello RJones,

It isn’t a matter of just your previous job or the new one. You must have a two-year employment history, though not necessarily with the same employer.

I am assuming from the way your message is written that you will be starting an entirely new job with a new employer in mid-November. For the income from the new job to be counted, you will need a 12-month work history with the new employer, and it will need to be at least two years since you started with the previous employer.

You will also need to get a letter from the previous employer that you lost your job there as a direct result of the pandemic. Because the gap between jobs was approximately six months, you must have the letter so we can bypass the 30-day maximum employment gap rule.

Until then, only your SSI will be eligible to be counted as income, which will obviously have a huge effect on the amount for which you can qualify.

Thank you so much for the clarity!
