You are absolutely correct. Funds from down payment assistance programs can be used to buy down your interest rate, which is actually a much more efficient use of those funds anyway.

We have a program here in Austin, and you have to use “approved” lenders- I do see BOA on the list, but it may only be for one of the local offices. The program would REALLY help us out though, the tax rate in Austin leaves us with slim pickings in our price range.
